The Pecan Pie Blizzard is new at DQ this Fall, and it features gooey brown sugar pie pieces, crunchy pecans, creamy caramel topping, and delicious DQ soft serve ice cream blended together into a nice Fall treat. We are very fond of both pecans and pecan pie, so this one became a must-try as soon as we found out about it.

Did this Blizzard manage to live up to the high expectations we had for it. We are here to show you what we received and tell you all about it in this Dairy Queen Pecan Pie Blizzard Review!

Dairy Queen Pecan Pie Blizzard Review

First impressions indicate that this one may be more vanilla ice cream than pecan pie. Typically, Dairy Queen’s Blizzard treats have more mix-ins and flavor.

Opinions on taste varied widely. While all of our reviewers enjoyed the pecans, one person couldn’t detect much flavor other than pecans and vanilla ice cream. The rest of our review team feels that the flavor is more consistent with “candied pecan and brown sugar ice cream” than pecan pie. There is a nice balance of sweet and salty in the mix for people who like that combination.

The brown sugar pie pieces are quite hard and chewy when cold, which may be an issue for some people. If you hold them in your mouth for a bit, they do soften up and add more pecan pie vibes to the mix. Overall, some reviewers find this one a bit of a letdown, while others enjoy the flavor and pecan crunch. One reviewer even loved the Pecan Pie Blizzard enough to declare it their second favorite Blizzard flavor.

Summary and Review

If you love pecans or sweet and salty flavor combinations, the new Pecan Pie Blizzard might hit the spot. It’s not sweet or syrupy like traditional pecan but, but it is good nonetheless.

Pros

  • Nice balanced flavor
  • Sweet and salty
  • Crunchy pecans

Cons

  • Pie pieces are hard to chew
  • Doesn’t taste like pecan pie until it’s melted and the pie pieces soften up
  • Could use a bit more mix-ins

The Pecan Pie Blizzard is part of the 2021 Fall Blizzard menu at Dairy Queen, along with other new flavors and a few classics like the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard.

  1. If I can’t buy my favorite flavor I’ll just have to make my own and not go to DQ.My two favorites are tropical and Hawaiian.
