Recently, McDonald’s decided to bring back their Spicy Chicken McNuggets. Some of our crew members were pumped about the return of the Spicy McNuggets, while others never got to try them the first time.
So, are these spicy nuggets worth the hype? We are here to give you our opinions in today’s review!
Spicy Chicken McNuggets Review
McDonald’s originally released their spicy McNuggets in 2020 for a limited time, and fans have been begging for them to return to the menu ever since. It seems like McDonald’s must be listening because they added the spicy nuggets back to the menu at select locations in April 2023!
The spicy chicken McNuggets are their regular white-meat nuggets breaded with a tempura coating that includes cayenne and chili peppers for some added spice. We decided that we needed to try these to see how they stack up to rival chains’ spicy chicken offerings. So, let’s see how they stack up!
Here’s what they look like:
First impressions are that these are basically McNuggets with a little extra kick. The texture and flavor of the chicken are the same as their regular nuggets, so if you enjoy those, then these are definitely worth checking out. Members with previous experience eating Spicy McNuggets claim that the taste and spice level have remained unchanged.
Regarding the spice level, most of us agree that these pack a mild to moderate heat level that builds a little as you eat them. The Spicy Chicken McNuggets are a little spicier than some other fast food chains’ spicy nuggets, but not quite as hot as Jack In The Box Spicy Popcorn Chicken. It also doesn’t build quickly and sneak up on you like some reviewers felt Burger King’s Spicy Chicken Fries do. These McNuggets have a flavorful heat that’s present but not overwhelming for the majority of palettes.
If you want to take the spiciness to the next level, you can always pair these with one of the spicier McDonald’s sauce options, such as Hot Mustard or Spicy Buffalo. Most of our crew enjoyed a more sweet and spicy combination with either Sweet N Sour sauce or Honey Mustard. Spicy McNuggets are good no matter what sauce you choose to dip them in!
Summary And Review
The Spicy Chicken McNuggets have a decent spice level, making them a nice change from regular McNuggets. They will easily pair well with your favorite dipping sauce and are fun to eat. True spicy food lovers might wish for more spice but they are pretty good!
