The bulk of the dish is seasoned rice, combined with pieces of off-the-bone chicken thigh, king prawns, and chorizo. It contains tomato, other veg such as onion, peas, and red bell pepper, besides various herbs and spices. There are also traces of other seafood products in this. This can be cooked in the oven or the microwave, our taster chose to use the microwave.
The chicken and shrimp both taste good, and have nice contrasting textures to the rice. The vegetables are welcome and do not overpower the dish. The rice has a nice color from the saffron, just as it should, and helped to make this a very filling meal. Most of the main ingredients worked well together. The chorizo is a very welcoming flavor, and texture.
In true Spanish cuisine, Chorizo is not a traditional ingredient of paella, and in this Taste The Difference variety, there is very little of it. The rice was a little bland for personal taste, with very little flavor coming from the stock. Our crew member had to add some extra salt to fully enjoy the dish.
The Taste The Difference Marinated Chicken & King Prawn Paella is usually available from the UK supermarket, Sainsbury’s for £4, but is currently on offer for £3.50 for a 400g serving.
