Pizza Hut Big New Yorker Pizza (Review)

Great News! The Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza is back! We couldn’t wait to taste this pizza, which was so popular back in the 1990s. We want to tell you all about it. Read on to find out if this was a hit with our team.

Pizza Hut Big New Yorker Pizza Review

The Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza begins with a hand-tossed crust and a generous coating of marinara sauce, with parmesan and oregano seasoning. A number of options are available for the main toppings. We selected the specialty double pepperoni on the recommendation of the staff.

Our first thoughts were ‘wow’! The pizza is massive at 16 inches, and one slice covers a standard dinner plate. You can see just how big one slice is in this photo:

We found the pizza both easy and fun to eat. Huge slices are perfect for folding in your hand and stuffing your face. The crust has a nice bite to it. There was a generous amount of pepperoni throughout our pizza, ensuring plenty of it in every single bite. Some of the pepperonis were also cupped to give a taste of delicious, crispy edges.

The salty, meaty pepperoni flavor blended well with the sweetness of the marinara and the melty cheese. Hints of oregano and parmesan seasoning came through now and then, which made the pizza even more flavorful. Our team thinks that the pizza was well-seasoned throughout.

Our panel did find the Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza a bit greasy. This could have been because of the large amount of pepperoni used, so we can not really complain much about that. Although we find the pizza nice, it did not feel that special. Our Food Rankers panel believes this is due to it being a pizza from a big food chain rather than a pizzeria. If you like Pizza Hut pizza, this pizza is definitely worth checking out.

One reviewer that remembers the Big New Yorker from the 90s described the taste test as “pure nostalgia”.

The Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza is available for a limited amount of time from participating outlets. It costs $13.99 on special, although prices may vary by location.

Summary and Rating

Our team liked a lot of things about Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza, including the large, foldable slices. The pepperoni-packed, seasoned filling was also a winner for our Food Rankers crew. Marinara sauce, cheese, parmesan, and oregano all played a part but allowed the pepperoni to be the star of the pizza show.

Having so much pepperoni did make the pizza feel a bit greasy, and the whole thing had a bit of a generic pizza chain feel to it. That said, most of our reviewers would order this again.

Pros

  • Huge pizza slices
  • Generous amount of pepperoni
  • Good flavor balance
  • 90s nostalgia

Cons

  • A bit greasy
  • Generic food-chain feeling

Rating: 7.7/10

  1. Hi, I LOVE my PIZZA HUT PIZZA, especially the Personal Pan Supreme. I’ve been ordering it for years. I order it with extra meat, cheese, light on the veggies and well done but NOT BURNT! I’d say 95%of the time it is fixed just the way I want it which is why I eat it so often. When it’s not made the way I like it I call and let them know and those times I am given a credit for my next order (they know I’ll be back, in my Arnold Schwarzenegger, voice). It is seldom that I try different things from the menu simply because when I order it I want it just as I picture it, just like they want their money. Well today I tried the big NY pizza because I was treating the grandkid. After listening to the description of what I “thought” we were going to get and asking for extra cheese I was disappointed that there was no meat NONE. I didn’t ask for any type of meat because I THOUGHT meat was a regular item on the NYer. So I called back and after going over and over with the person that answered the phone and him telling me there was no order in there record for a NYer I told him my receipt number, the server name etc. Well I finally asked to speak to the manager who just happens to have been the person that took my order. He found my order told me that I didn’t specify a meat he didn’t order any meat. I didn’t order because the person that announces their items while you’re on hold or so I thought, said there was meat on it. So I just asked for extra cheese, which I got. The manager said he’d credit my account but I HAVE TO “ASK” FOR THE MEAT, on my next order. I appreciate his giving me credit, but I surely would have liked to have what I thought I was going to get. If you’ve ever been to New York and got their pizza’s at the street vendors, you’d know how delicious those pizzas really are.

    • Yeah, we think it’s odd that Pizza Hut doesn’t automatically include meat on The Big New Yorker pizza too. Sorry you didn’t have a good experience!
