Yes, you read that right, a mac and cheese sandwich.
It’s way more than just some warm mac and cheese thrown in between some bread though. Check out this menu description: “Creamy Mac & Cheese with our fontina and mozzarella cheese blend and parmesan crisps on toasted thick-sliced Classic White Miche.”
Basically, it’s Panera’s delicious creamy mac and cheese in sandwich form with their fresh bread, parmesan crisps, and extra cheese. We had to see if this new sandwich is worth the hype that it’s been getting lately, so we tried it.

Panera Bread Grilled Mac And Cheese Sandwich Review
I got mine as part of a ‘You Pick Two’ meal with the Bistro French Onion Soup, because I am low-key obsessed with their take on French onion soup. Here’s a picture of my half sandwich.
This sandwich is seriously a cheese lovers and carb lovers dream. Gooey, creamy and cheesy with the combination of both tender pasta shells and fresh toasted bread, the Panera Bread Grilled Mac And Cheese Sandwich is truly comfort food to the max.
The filling is delicious and feels substantial, even though it is essentially upgraded mac and cheese. The iconic Panera mac and cheese with its rich creaminess and al dente pasta shells makes an amazing sandwich filling. Who knew? Plus, the parmesan crisps add a bit of crunchy texture to a burst of flavor to random bites. Plus, look at all that cheese:
So stretchy and melty!
Some people that purchased a whole sandwich found Panera Bread’s Grilled Mac And Cheese sandwich almost too rich and decadent to finish, but most of us found it extremely comforting and satisfying, especially the half portion paired with either Bistro French Onion or Broccoli Cheddar soup. So much warm, cheesy goodness!
The only negative that we can think of, aside from it being too rich for some people, is inconsistent toasting, For example, the bread on the bottom of my sandwich was significantly darker than the top piece of bread. Others had the same issue. A relatively minor complaint overall but still worth mentioning.

It was truly memorable! Its $10.50 price was off putting but I can’t wait for seconds!!! Before I tried this sandwich, I hadn’t been in a Panera Bread since I was in outside sales 10+ years ago when I frequently used the restaurant for its WiFi and non alcohol environment to sign a sales contracts.
I couldn’t wait for seconds either. I had it again about a week later 😉 Cheesy and delicious!
